Description

GOALGADDA BEAN (SYLHET EXPORT VARIETY)
Bangladesh’s Premier Export Bean – Shipping to 13 Countries

The crown jewel of Bangladeshi bean exports. Goalgadda is a distinctive flat bean variety, 8-10 inches long and 2-3 inches wide—significantly larger than common beans—prized for its exceptional taste, tender texture, and high consumer demand in both domestic and international markets .

Export Market Reach: Successfully exported to 13 countries including UK, USA, Canada, GCC nations, and Europe. Daily export volume averages 5,000 kg during November-March season, with total production exceeding 45,000-50,000 tonnes annually from Sylhet region alone .

Cultivation: Primarily grown in Golapganj upazila’s three unions (Lakshanabond, Lakshmi Pasha, Fulbari) where soil and environmental conditions are uniquely suitable. Currently cultivated on 600+ hectares with expanding acreage .

Market Position: Commands premium pricing—wholesale Tk30-50/kg, significantly higher than conventional varieties. Strong diaspora demand, particularly during winter months .

Export Challenge: No government packing house in Sylhet; currently requires transportation to DAE Dhaka facility for export certification, increasing time, cost, and product damage. Direct export potential via Osmani International Airport remains underutilized .
